Before now, I had never done a sketchnote style video. I knew what they were - I had witnessed the viral “Draw My Life” trend on YouTube when I was in high school. Creating this type of video was a new experience for me, though. To prepare for this video, I needed my content. I had previously brainstormed several questions about education and my classroom, and I was going to sort them into different categories. Once I had organized my questions into the different categories, I planned out a script of what I wanted to say. My next task was to figure out how to record the video. I already had a large whiteboard and markers to use, but I didn’t know quite how to do the recording part. I didn’t have a stand to put the phone on, so I had to design one using the tools I had. I put the whiteboard flat on the ground and took my guitar and put it on my coffee table - thick end on the table with the neck stretching out over the whiteboard. I could then balance my phone on the neck, over the whiteboard. Not a normal way to film, but it ended up working very well!

From there, I recorded my sorting and drawings. Then, I uploaded my video to my computer, edited it, and added my voiceover using an online program called Clipchamp. It was very easy to use and provided great editing options.
I ended up really enjoying creating this video! Sketchnote videos are a creative way to connect content with art, and I think my students would benefit from making videos like this. They would find it fun, and they would be able to learn from it.
